Tarpaulin Border Rope

A tarpaulin, often simply called a tarp, is a large sheet of strong, flexible, water-resistant or waterproof material, typically made of cloth such as canvas or polyester coated with polyurethane, or made of plastics such as polyethylene. In some cases, tarpaulins used to protect objects, such as in construction or during the painting of buildings, might have metal grommets (eyelets) at the corners and along the edges to help tie the tarp down or allow it to be hung.

  • Reinforcement: The rope that is woven into the hem or the edges of the tarpaulin acts as a reinforcement. This makes the edges stronger and less likely to tear under tension.

  • Structure: The rope helps maintain the structure of the tarp and gives it a defined shape, which can be particularly important when the tarp needs to cover irregular shapes or when it needs to withstand strong winds.

  • Support for Grommets: The rope provides a stronger foundation for the grommets that are used to secure the tarp. This arrangement prevents the grommets from tearing out from the material when the tarp is pulled tight or weighed down.

  • Durability: A border rope can significantly extend the lifespan of a tarpaulin by preventing fraying and tearing along the edges.

  • Usage: Tarps with border ropes are ideal for heavy-duty applications such as covering vehicles, boats, and construction materials, as a groundsheet for camping, and for making temporary shelters
